WelcomeThe Kiewit Center for Infrastructure and Transportation was initially established in 1962 as the Transportation Research Institute. The Kiewit Center serves as the umbrella organization for almost all research within the School of Civil and Construction Engineering. The Center is a key component in the College of Engineering's drive to become a top 25 engineering program, coordinating multi- and inter-disciplinary research projects. In addition to conducting funded and unfunded research, the Center provides a variety of outreach activities to support practicing professionals throughout the Pacific Northwest. Oregon Traffic Safety, through Oregon DOT, has sponsored a continuing education program with our Center since 1979. Dr. Robert Layton coordinates 8-10 workshops each year that serves approximately 250 practicing professional, many from local agencies. He also conducts about 10 workshops annually in cooperation with the continuing education programs at UC-Berkeley, University of Washington, and University of Idaho. The Center participates in the Council of University Transportation Centers (CUTC) through the Region 10 TransNow University Transportation Center, located at the University of Washington. Our participation provides opportunities to interact with other Northwest universities' transportation groups to address regional challenges. The available federal funding has also allowed the Center to serve OSU graduate and undergraduate students with over $314,000 in fellowships since 1991.
